Well Done, Holly & Emily!
4th Jun 2024We would like to congratulate our wonderful Senior Animal Rescue Carer, Holly, and her animal-loving cousin, Emily, on completing the mighty Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 26th May!
This 'pawsome' pair worked so hard on their training in the lead up to this event, and we're so proud of them for finishing the marathon together in just over 5 hours.
We are delighted that Holly & Emily's phenomenal efforts have resulted in them raising over £3,000 for Margaret Green Animal Rescue, which will make an incredible difference to the many animals we rescue and look after every year.
From working at our Lincoln Farm centre, Holly has seen first-hand the impact we make to our rescue animals' lives, and how your support helps us to get them back on their paws and into their loving new homes.
We asked Holly a couple of questions following their run, to find out a little more about their day...
What was your biggest challenge?
'It was definitely trying to keep going after hitting 'the wall' at mile 18. A supportive back rub was definitely needed to keep our spirits high! Mile 18 is also the point where the route looped back, so there were no supporters around to cheer us on, which meant it was very quiet.'
How did you feel before, during and after the event?
'We felt a huge mixture of excitement and nerves before the marathon started. We were also very, very wet from the bad weather, so we were eager to get running and warmed up!
Throughout the run, we experienced a real wave of emotions. We were so proud of ourselves, but also exhausted and we started to wish that we had chosen a marathon in Spain instead of Scotland, whilst we were running with a yellow weather warning! However, we really enjoyed the beautiful sights of Edinburgh and the coastline.
We definitely had tears of joy as we came to the end. I was running hand-in-hand with Emily from mile 26, right through to the finish line - which is a memory that I’ll never forget! We are so grateful to all our friends & family for travelling up and cheering us on in the brutal weather conditions.
We also feel very honoured to have raised funds to help all the animals crossing paths with MGAR... And, of course, we felt a huge amount of relief that the running was over!'

We can't thank them enough for supporting us in this fantastic way, and for helping us to raise awareness and funds for vulnerable animals in need.
