We’re pleased to introduce to you our one-of-a-kind medium-sized (12kg) Dachshund cross, Bovril. Bovril is a 1-year-old male crossbreed who came into our care as a stray. This gorgeous boy with his shiny black coat, puppy-dog eyes and striking personality is looking for a dedicated family to help him settle into home life.

Due to him coming to us as after being found straying, we don’t know much about Bovril’s past. We have instead learned lots about him in the time he has been with us and would love to pass this knowledge on to his new owners. For instance, we know how much he loves to play and that toys are quite possibly his favourite thing in the entire world (especially any football shaped ball)! Being the age he is, he has endless energy and can play for hours. When he is with his carers, tug-of-war is a popular pastime, and he will happily receive snuggles when successfully worn out! He also loves to play with his canine friends, though sometimes can take the rough and tumble a little too far, so we have been trying to teach him some manners in this respect.

During his training, we have taken Bovril offsite on many adventures to help his development. He has proven himself to be a brave and tenacious little dog but can become easily overwhelmed when confronted with unknown situations and new dogs. This can cause him to become frustrated when on the end of the lead, but the Lincoln Farm team will be on hand to show new owners how we manage this. Bovril often looks to his carers for support and will need his adopter to be his advocate for him if he is finding something challenging. For this reason, it is essential that Bovril has a family who will continue his training and socialisation.

Bovril recently visited Church Knowle, which is Margaret Green Animal Rescue’s rehoming centre for cats, small furries and livestock. A key thing we noticed is that he is reactive around livestock and would much prefer to avoid these kinds of animals whilst he learns his countryside etiquette. For this reason, Bovril needs a home without any livestock nearby and free of any resident chickens, cats or small animals.

Although, Bovril could definitely live with a confident female dog who can be a calming influence on him. We are also looking for a home with teenage children upwards, due to Bovril’s particular needs. Bovril would additionally love a home with a private, enclosed garden, which can become his safe space in which he can decompress if needed.

If you feel that there is a Bovril-shaped hole in your life, please contact Lincoln Farm and we will be more than happy to talk to you some more about this brilliant boy.
