Homeless & Helpless
14th Nov 2024As we entered 2024, our team started to notice the number of calls about cats was steadily increasing.
Day-by-day, we were being alerted to more unwanted cats and, even more concerning were the litters of kittens who were being born, with absolutely nowhere to call home.
Pandemic + Cost of Living = Cat Crisis
With so many new feline friends bought during the periods of lockdown, the cat population is now much larger, including a far higher percentage of cats who are not neutered.
The Cost of Living Crisis, paired with the rising cost of veterinary care, has had a significant impact upon owners having cats with unplanned pregnancies. Inevitably, many of these little ones end up in our care, along with their mums.
A baby, having babies
18-month-old Lexi arrived pregnant and in need of everything an expectant Mum could hope for at such a vulnerable time. Sadly, it was not the first litter of kittens this sweet, young girl had become pregnant with, and it was vital that we provided her with a safe, stress-free space.
With nutritious meals, veterinary checks and snuggles shared with our team, Lexi soon gave birth to 5 adorable, healthy kittens, who depended upon Mum for all their care… and Mum depended upon us for all of hers.
We spend around £500 on every cat we care for, so, taking in just one pregnant mother, like Lexi, means our costs soon start to multiply.
300% increase in kitten births
When compared with 2023, this year has seen an unbelievable increase in kittens being born at our rescue. Earlier this year, we took in several cats who we quickly discovered were pregnant.
This reality means the cost of caring for those new friends escalates immediately from us funding £500 for one cat’s rescue journey, to as much as £3,500 for an average litter.
With well over 100 cats on our rescue’s waiting list at any one time, we need your help today, to continue being the vital light in an otherwise gloomy existence for so many cats and their sweet babies.
Tilly
Tilly is another homeless & helpless little girl, who arrived carrying her beautiful & sweet little dependents.
Despite needing to call our rescue facilities her home for this scary time in her world, Tilly was the most loving mother, whose only focus was making sure her kittens were happy, healthy and cherished.
Once we had taken care of all of Tilly’s needs, and helped her to raise the most important creatures she would ever meet, Tilly was ready to be neutered and to start her onward journey to finding her forever family.
With your support, cats like Tilly will never need to be faced with the fear and uncertainty caused by unplanned litters.
Your donation will transform their future
