Introducing Our New Scheme
We are developing a fostering programme to give rescue dogs a loving home environment, while they await their forever families.
Fostering is ideal for dogs who need a little extra comfort and care, including puppies, older dogs, those recovering from veterinary treatment, or dogs who struggle in a kennel environment.
A foster home allows them to relax, feel safe and receive the individual attention they need.
How Fostering Helped Harley
Harley, a 9-year-old Cavalier x Cocker Spaniel, was one of the first dogs to benefit from the programme.
When he arrived with us, he had several ongoing veterinary needs, including some bladder and kidney issues.
Thanks to his devoted foster carers, we were able to get him settled into a home environment while he received the necessary treatment.
Being in a foster home gave him the calm, comfortable space he needed to recover and prepare for his journey to a permanent home.
What's it Like Being a Foster Carer?

Q - What made you decide to become a foster carer?
A - After sadly losing our elderly pet, I had a chance conversation with someone about fostering, and I saw MGAR's appeal for foster carers later that same day! The opportunity to love and nurture a dog, without the financial pressure of owning a pet, and helping them prepare for their forever family, was a big part of my decison.
Q - What was the most rewarding part of fostering?
A - Receiving love and companionship from Harley was incredibly rewarding.
Q - What was Harley like on his first day vs when he left your care?
A - Harley left my care in better physical condition, and having recovered from the medical issues that he'd arrived with, which was a joy to see.
Q - What advice would you give someone considering fostering for the first time?
A - I would advise them to think carefully and be honest about what they can and can't provide as a foster carer, and then to follow their heart and go for it!
Q - What support made fostering easier for you?
A - Firstly, I'd say being matched with a dog that fitted the parameters that I'd specified in my application. Also, knowing that the MGAR team was always there for me, with help and advice, made fostering much easier.

We are currently seeking adult-only households, with no other pets, located within an hour of Blandford, Dorset.
